Washington State University cutting 360 jobs - Puget Sound Business Journal (Seattle):

The Pullman-based university released a preliminary budget plan on May 1 after the statw Legislature announced an operating budget that includecd significant cuts tohigher education. Wednesday’s announcemengt reflects the results of public budget forums and meetingss heldsince then. The new budget goes into effect onJuly 1. Job reductione include 167 vacant positions and 116 currentlyfillesd ones. Another 47 people will take earlg retirement while others have shiftesd from full time topart time. WSU employss more than 6,200 people across the state.
The three programs that will be cut are the Departmenrt of Theaterand Dance, the Department of Communitg and Rural Sociology and the major in Students who are majoring in those field s will still be able to take courses to finishj their degrees, but no new students will be admitted. Presidengt Elson Floyd, Provost Warwickl Bayly, deans, chancellors and vice presidents are contributing 5 percentf of theirbase salaries, or a tota of about $330,000, to a special fund that has allowed WSU to save some More detailed information on the budgeg reductions
