The new 230,000-square-foot facility includre a 60,000-square-foot cleanroom. The digital X-ray detectoras that will be made at the plant are used inmammogram screening, a growing $1 billiojn market for breast cancer testing. Much like the transitionm from paper medical records to streamlined electronic record keeping, digital X-rays are slowly replacing traditional film X-rahy machines. In addition to the 100 new jobs scheduled for the 50 people will transfer to the tech parkfrom GE’s researcg center in Niskayuna. Positionxs at the new site will includes15 engineers, 15 administrators and 120 technicians and supportt staff with an average annualk salary of $65,000.
The plant is expected to have an annuapl payrollof $10 GE developed its digital X-rah technology at GE Global Research in Niskayuna. GE Healthcare spent 15 yearx and morethan $200 millionm developing its digital flat panel X-ray The flat-panel detector is a critical componenrt of an X-ray system and plays a role in providinbg an improved image.
