McDermott unit set to build small nuclear reactor - Sacramento Business Journal:

has formed a new business unit, , to lead the licensing and delivery of its mPower The scalable component of the nucleaer plants would provide customers with powe r increments of 125 megawattsof electricity. The company will manufacture the reactors in its existing facilities in Nortuh America and then ship them by rail toconstructiobn sites. B&W has signed a lettedr of intent with the to begin the process of evaluatinbg a potential lead plant site for themPowetr reactor. In addition, both entities, along with a consortiu of regional municipal andcooperative utilities, have signede a memorandum of understanding to explors the construction of a fleet of mPower reactors.
B&W has notifiexd the of its intent to submit an applicatiobn for design certification of the reacto rin 2011. Babcock & Wilcox is the power-generation business of Houston-based McDermott Internationa (NYSE: MDR), an engineering and constructionj company.
