Follow-up testing showed that 88 percent of the patients with arcus had highblood sugar, 66 percenrt had an elevated body mass index, 64 percent had high bloodr pressure and 21 percent had elevated The study was conducted on 2,000 patients betweebn April and September 2008. In addition to an eye VSP doctors screened patients for other health risks and referred thosr at risk to the foundatio n for diagnosis andadditional testing. “This studyg demonstrates ... how comprehensive eye examas should be used as a screeningv for prevalentmetabolic conditions,” Dr. Steven Leichter, medical directod at the research said in apressd release.
“Greater partnership between relevant health care providers may enhance the efficiencu of our health caresystem and, in the end, reduc health care costs.”
